Klaviyo Pricing in 2026: What You’ll Actually Pay as You Grow

Max Zakhozhiy| 22| 0

Paying more for email marketing does not always mean you are selling more, and that is the usual frustration with Klaviyo pricing for a growing store. The list gets bigger, the bill climbs, and part of it goes on contacts who have not clicked or bought in months. Add SMS and a couple of add-ons and the monthly total can drift well past the number you planned for.

This guide breaks down Klaviyo pricing in 2026: how each product is billed, what a store pays at 5,000, 25,000 and 100,000 profiles, how that compares with Mailchimp, Omnisend and Shopify Email, and where you can cut the bill without losing customers who still buy.

Prices below were taken from Klaviyo’s public pricing calculator on 15 September 2026. Klaviyo changes tiers and packaging from time to time, so check the calculator before you commit to a budget.

How Klaviyo Pricing Works

Klaviyo does not sell one bundle with everything inside. Each product has its own pricing model, and your invoice can include several of them:

  • email, billed by active profiles, with a monthly send allowance;
  • SMS and other mobile messages, billed by usage and destination country;
  • Klaviyo Reviews, billed by monthly order volume;
  • the Klaviyo data platform (CDP) and advanced analytics;
  • enterprise support or professional services.

The structure is flexible. It also means the headline price on the pricing page is rarely the number you end up paying.

Klaviyo Pricing for Email

Email plans are priced by the number of active profiles in your account. Each tier comes with a monthly send allowance of roughly ten times the profile limit. Klaviyo states this directly: a plan for 500 profiles lets you send up to 5,000 emails a month. In the calculator, the 5,000-profile tier showed 50,000 monthly sends.

Watch both numbers. If your active profiles grow past the plan limit, Klaviyo can move you to a bigger plan automatically at the next billing cycle.

Klaviyo Pricing for SMS

SMS is the part of Klaviyo pricing that varies most. It is not part of the email plan and is billed separately. The cost depends on:

  • the destination country;
  • the message type (SMS, MMS, WhatsApp, RCS);
  • carrier and provider fees;
  • monthly volume;
  • how many segments a message needs.

For US toll-free SMS the calculator showed base rates of about $0.011 per message at 1,000 messages a month, $0.009 at 5,000 and $0.008 at 20,000. Provider fees come on top.

Klaviyo Pricing for Reviews

Klaviyo Reviews pricing for up to 250 orders per month

Klaviyo Reviews is billed by monthly orders, not by profiles. The calculator showed $25 a month for up to 250 orders. As order volume grows, recalculate it: this line item scales with sales, not with list size.

Data Platform (CDP) Pricing

The standard platform already includes segmentation, reporting, activity data and revenue attribution. The Klaviyo data platform is a separate product for brands that need more advanced data management.

The key difference is how profiles are counted. According to Klaviyo’s help centre, CDP billing is based on total profiles, including suppressed ones. If you are quoted for the CDP, ask for a written breakdown of which profiles and features the price covers.

The Klaviyo Free Plan

Klaviyo free plan highlights with 250 active profiles and 500 emails per month

The Klaviyo free plan covers:

  • up to 250 active profiles;
  • 500 email sends a month;
  • $5 of mobile message usage a month;
  • $5 of Composer usage;
  • built-in reporting;
  • email support for the first 60 days.

It works for testing integrations, building the first flows and learning the platform. A store that sends regular campaigns outgrows it fast: two campaigns to 250 profiles use the whole month’s allowance.

Klaviyo Pricing by Active Profile Count

These are the email prices the public calculator showed on 15 September 2026, with a sample SMS budget added on top.

Active profiles Email price Monthly sends Sample SMS use Email + SMS
Up to 250 Free 500 $5 credit $0
1,500 $45/month 15,000 not modelled $45/month
5,000 $100/month 50,000 1,000 US SMS: about $11 about $111/month
25,000 $400/month 250,000 5,000 US SMS: about $45 about $445/month
100,000 $1,380/month 1,000,000 20,000 US SMS: about $160 about $1,540/month
250,000 check calculator or quote by contract by contract ask sales

The SMS column assumes one message a month to 20% of the email audience. It leaves out provider fees, MMS, international numbers and multi-segment messages. At 250,000 profiles most brands negotiate a contract, so any single public figure would mislead more than it helps.

What Counts as a Klaviyo Active Profile?

An active profile is any profile that is not suppressed for email. It is not the same as every person stored in your account.

This is the part of Klaviyo pricing most stores get wrong, and it matters in two directions. A subscriber who has ignored every email for a year is still an active profile, so you keep paying for them until they are suppressed. On the other hand, a common claim is wrong: Klaviyo does not charge email plans for suppressed profiles. The help article on suppressed profiles says so plainly. Only the CDP counts them.

Klaviyo’s guide to managing active profiles explains how to find and suppress the ones you no longer need.

Hidden Factors That Raise Your Klaviyo Cost

The plan price is only the starting point of Klaviyo pricing. These are the things that push the real bill up.

Inactive Profiles That Stay Marketable

Thousands of unengaged contacts cost money every month and drag down deliverability. Before you suppress them, run a re-engagement or sunset flow. Keep recent buyers, VIP customers, people with meaningful site activity and anyone who engaged recently.

Duplicate Profiles

Duplicates appear when a store runs several integrations, collects contact details inconsistently or uses a headless storefront with weak identity resolution. The same customer can sit in the account under two email addresses, or as separate email and phone records. Check where each duplicate comes from before you merge anything. Some profiles that look alike belong to different people.

SMS Country Rates

SMS prices change a lot by country. A campaign to the US does not cost the same as one to Canada, Australia or the UK. Long messages, emojis, special characters and MMS can also raise the number of billable segments. Always price SMS from your real audience mix.

Add-On Products

Reviews, the CDP, advanced analytics, professional services and premium support all add to the total. Ask for an itemised quote rather than treating the email plan as the full price.

Monthly Versus Annual Contracts

The public calculator shows monthly prices. Larger brands often sign annual or negotiated contracts through sales. Do not assume an annual term comes with a standard discount. Read the renewal terms, profile allowance, overage rules, support level and cancellation conditions before you compare it with a monthly plan.

Realistic Klaviyo Pricing at Three Growth Stages

Take a Shopify store that sends four campaigns a month on top of its automated flows.

Stage Active profiles Email plan Sample SMS Reviews Monthly total
Emerging store 5,000 $100 $11 $25 (up to 250 orders) about $136
Growing store 25,000 $400 $45 depends on orders $445 plus Reviews
Established store 100,000 $1,380 $160 depends on orders $1,540 plus Reviews

Tax, carrier fees, the CDP, agency work and custom contracts are not included. The $25 Reviews price only fits the smallest store. A store with 25,000 or 100,000 profiles almost always has more than 250 orders a month, so enter your real order count in the calculator.

Klaviyo vs Mailchimp, Omnisend and Shopify Email

A fair comparison uses the same list size, send volume, SMS audience and feature set. Comparing Klaviyo’s automation with a plan that only sends newsletters gives you a cheap answer to the wrong question.

Platform What you pay for Entry pricing Large lists
Klaviyo Active profiles plus send allowance Free up to 250 profiles, then tiers by profile count Negotiated contracts at high volume
Mailchimp Contacts, plan and send allowance Paid plans start at the published entry price High tiers or custom pricing
Omnisend Contacts and plan Free up to 250 contacts and 500 emails; Standard starts from about $11 to $16 a month depending on current promotions Custom pricing above 150,000 contacts
Shopify Email Emails sent 10,000 free emails a month Usage-based, no contact fee

For a simple store that sends four emails per profile a month, Shopify Email would cost roughly:

Profiles Monthly sends Estimated Shopify Email charge
5,000 20,000 $10
25,000 100,000 $90
100,000 400,000 about $355
250,000 1,000,000 about $720

Shopify gives 10,000 free emails a month, then charges $1 per 1,000 emails up to 300,000, $0.65 per 1,000 up to 750,000 and $0.55 per 1,000 after that. Its pricing guide also says abandoned checkout automations are always free.

Price alone does not settle the Klaviyo vs Mailchimp pricing question, or the Shopify Email one. Shopify Email is cheaper for campaigns. Klaviyo gives you deeper ecommerce segmentation, event data, predictive metrics, testing and multi-step flows. Mailchimp and Omnisend run introductory discounts, so take same-day quotes from the Mailchimp pricing page and the Omnisend pricing page before you compare exact figures.

If the numbers point to a move, plan it properly. Switching platforms to save money can cost you flow history and sender reputation, which is why we run email service migration as a separate project with warm-up built in.

How to Reduce Your Klaviyo Bill

Start with a monthly profile hygiene routine:

  1. Find profiles with no recent clicks, purchases or meaningful site activity.
  2. Exclude recent buyers and high lifetime value customers.
  3. Send the rest a short re-engagement sequence.
  4. Suppress the ones who still do not respond.
  5. Check new integrations for duplicate profile creation.
  6. Review the active profile count before the next billing date.

Do not suppress someone for skipping one campaign. Apple Mail Privacy Protection makes open data unreliable, so judge engagement by clicks, purchases, site activity, recency and customer value together. Klaviyo itself warns that suppressing too early can cost revenue.

A clean list also sends better. If inbox placement is already slipping, read why emails go to spam before you start cutting.

Example: Dropping Back a Tier

Here is how the maths works on an illustrative store with 27,400 active profiles, just over the 25,000 tier.

  • The team finds 4,100 profiles with no click, purchase or recorded site activity in 12 months.
  • It keeps recent buyers, VIP customers, anyone with an open support ticket and anyone who clicked recently.
  • The remaining group gets a three-email re-engagement flow.
  • 3,000 profiles do not respond and are suppressed.

The account drops to 24,400 active profiles and back into the 25,000 tier. When you run this on a real account, export the before and after profile counts, record the suppression rules and compare flow and campaign revenue for the following 60 days. That tells you whether the saving was worth it.

Common Klaviyo Pricing Mistakes

  • Treating every stored profile as billable.
  • Assuming suppressed profiles count toward the email plan.
  • Ignoring the monthly send allowance.
  • Forgetting carrier fees and international SMS rates.
  • Comparing platforms on list size instead of active profiles and send volume.
  • Treating a competitor’s promotional price as permanent.
  • Keeping years of dead profiles without a sunset flow.
  • Buying SMS before the core email flows exist.
  • Signing an annual contract without reading the renewal terms.

Is Klaviyo Worth It?

Klaviyo earns its price when a store has enough customer data and revenue to use what it is good at:

  • detailed ecommerce segmentation;
  • behaviour-based email and SMS flows;
  • deep product and order integrations;
  • revenue attribution by flow and campaign;
  • testing across the customer journey;
  • personalisation based on purchase history.

A cheaper tool is often enough for a store that sends a few newsletters, has a small catalogue and no time to build flows. The core ones, like triggered emails for welcome, abandoned cart and post-purchase, are what usually pay for the platform.

So the real question is not whether Klaviyo is expensive. It is whether its extra automation and segmentation bring in more profit than the difference in software and management cost.

Conclusion

Klaviyo pricing in 2026 starts at zero, and a growing store can reach $100, $400 or well over $1,000 a month as its active audience grows. SMS, Reviews, the CDP, order volume and custom contracts can push that further.

Before choosing a plan, put your real profile count and send volume into the official calculator. Then audit inactive profiles, duplicates, SMS destinations and add-ons. For data-driven ecommerce brands Klaviyo can pay for itself many times over, but only with a clean database and flows that make money. If you want a second opinion on your account, our Klaviyo email marketing team can review the setup and the bill together.
